Tettegouche State Park MNIf you love nature, Tettegouche State Park is a beautiful place in northern Minnesota that you will love to visit. It became a state park in 1979, but was preserved for a number of years prior to that. In the early 1900's, a logging company moved into the area, cutting down most of the virgin pine. They then sold the land to the Tettegouche Club, a group of Duluth, MN men who preserved the land as a campsite and retreat. It was protected for over half of a century privately, until sold to the deLaittres family, who commissioned for the land to become a state park.Today, the land is still preserved the way it was back when the Tettegouche Club owned it. This is one of Minnesota?s smaller state parks, but it has a beautiful layout and land make up, with about a mile of Lake Superior shoreline, six smaller lakes, rivers and waterfalls, mountainous hiking trails, deep gorges, and a hardwood forest. The wildlife of this area is diverse and includes rare birds and sitings of the unusual flying squirrel, coyote, and timberwolves, which attract thousands of visitors every year. |
