Fishing the North Shore of Minnesota

Trout fishing the North Shore is one of Minnesota?s favorite pastimes. With at least five different species of trout available, every angler is sure to catch his favorite. Each of the different types of trout are available during different times of the year, so fishing can be a year round experience.

Three different species of Salmon populate the North Shore area. Coho and Chinook salmon are the most popular for anglers, but the smaller Pink Salmon is gaining in popularity. Salmon fishing on the North Shore runs from early spring until October, with the best fishing times when the water is between 53 to 57 degrees.

Minnesota?s most famous fish, the Walleye and the Northern Pike, are the favorite of summertime anglers. These can be fished from the shore itself, as both species prefer shallow, warm water.

Fishing in Minnesota does require a license. Resident and Non-resident licenses are available at most tackle shops and convenience stores, as well as through the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

The North Shore area offers both residents and vacationers the perfect opportunity to spend a day, a week or a lifetime pursuing the pleasurable activity of fishing. When not fishing, the North Shore offers many other outdoor activities that will appeal to everyone. The beauty of the area alone will make the North Shore a wonderful place to live or visit.
