George H. Crosby Manitou State ParkIf you?re a hiker looking for a challenging adventure, George H. Crosby Manitou State Park has what you need. Here, the almost 6700 acres of land attract fewer visitors than some of the other state parks in northern Minnesota, because the land is extremely rugged and worthy of only the best hikers. Your trip here will be exciting as well, because while hiking, you are likely to see bears, deer, moose, wolves, hawks, beavers, and grouse. The park follows the Manitou River and was a gift in 1955 from George H. Crosby. There are no campgrounds in the park, only barren campsites scattered throughout the area, so you have to hike to a spot if you want to pitch a tent. This is a backpack-only park, with a variety of foot trails, but no there is no development now or planned in the future for motor vehicles or bikes. It is truly one of the untouched pieces of land along the shores of Lake Superior. |
