Cascade River State ParkThe most unique thing about Cascade River State Park, found in northern Minnesota, is the terrain. Hiking here is not for beginners for the most part, as the land is mountainous and centered on the Cascade River, which flows through a gorge and includes a number of waterfalls. The area is more sheltered, however, due to the orientation of the land to Lake Superior, so the weather is a bit milder, especially in the winter. You can visit the park any time of year, but during the summer, be sure to stop by the park office for a map or to listen to one of the naturalists lecture about the park. There are a number of trails winding through the park, but most of the land remains in its natural state, as it was preserved since people first settled into the area. You can, however, view the Cascade River from one of the many footbridges. The river itself drops for a total of 900 feet in the park through a volcanic gorge, so if you love waterfalls, this is a great place for you to visit. |
