Canoeing in the Boundary Waters of MinnesotaNestled to the northeast of Minnesota lies a unique and popular canoeing destination known as the Boundary Waters. It is made up of a large, interconnected network of waterways that draw in all types of canoeists, from the pros to the amateurs. The Boundary Waters really does have something for everyone who is interested in canoeing. There are numerous campsites in the region, which brings in another popular activity for tourists. However, many of these campsites are only accessible by water, which means you?re probably going to have to canoe to get to them.As of 1999, 75% of the waterways in the Boundary Waters were designated for travel by boats without motors only. So, while you won?t be seeing any yachts or speedboats on these waters, you?ll be seeing plenty of canoes. This is great for the avid canoeist because it presents a natural area of the United States that has relatively calm waters at all time, without any danger of reckless boaters. Since most of the bodies of water, lakes and ponds, are connected by multiple water pathways, there is plenty of space to explore the area via canoe. In fact, these waterways give about 1000 miles of canoe paths to choose from. It?s easy to choose a route at any length and difficulty simply by choosing a lake and its connecting waterways. |
